First in History, China Will Make Car Factory in Indonesia

As Jakarta car manufacturer in Indonesia is dominated by Japan, South Korea, and Europe. But in 2017, a car factory from China, namely Wuling, started production in Indonesia. This is the first in the history of the automotive industry in Indonesia.

This was revealed by the Minister of Industry Saleh Husin when found detikFinance, in the office of the Ministry of Industry, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Thursday (21/05/2015).

"It's the first in history, the car. If the motor (from China) it was there," said Saleh.

Wuling through a joint venture company called SAIC-GM-Wuling has determined the location of the factory in the Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java. Saleh said, the company has purchased 60 acres of land with substantial investment.

"About US $ 700 million, or Rp 8 trillion," he said.

The company will produce car multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), which is ready to compete with the Japanese brands that already dominate in the homeland. Saleh said, Wuling in his home country produces 5 million units of cars were also exported.

"Here, we encourage them to partner with local partners, so that there is transfer of technology and togetherness. The market is not only for domestic but also for export," he said.

Saleh also confirmed that the cars produced later mengedapankan raw material component in the country.
